Common signs and symptoms are sudden change in vision, flashing lights, and floaters being seen. As the retina detaches the patient may report feeling like he/she is looking through a cobweb or veil and finally like a dark curtain is being drawn over the field of vision. There is no report of pain with these symptoms

Momentary bright flashes of light are a common symptom of retinal detachment. Retinal detachment is uaually partial at first; however, if the disorder goes untreated and the entire retina becomes involved, blindness may occur. Diplopia does not accompany retinal detachment. Retinal detachment is a painless process.
